Project Plan

Where will I shoot?
I will be shooting in big cities such as Manchester or London, focusing on interesting people and busy places like train stations. I really like HumansOfNY where he takes portraits on people in the streets that he finds interesting and he asked them some questions and then puts them with the images. He is my main inspiration during this brief and in the final product I will maybe put some quotes from the people I have taken pictures of. I will also be doing some long shutter speed photographs in a busy location like a train station or a busy street and have a long shutter speed and then have a really good photograph at the end with all the people blurred around in the rush.

Equipment
I will be using my camera, Nikom D3200 and a tripod for when I want to do a longer shutter seed, I may possibly using a Neutral Density Filter, this means I will be able to have a longer shutter speed on my camera because it acts as sunglasses almost meaning not as much light is let in. This will work really when I want to do some shoots in the train station or on the streets of crowds rushing around.
I will also be needing to check my exposure and settings to make sure all of my images are of a good quality.

Location Shoot One

For this shoot I went into Manchester to get some photographs of some interesting people and tell their story through photographic. I really enjoyed doing this and found that I preferred stopping and asking people in the street if I could take their photograph and then almost getting to know some of their background, almost like Brendan from HumansofNY.

A friend and I saw this homeless man outside of co-op we decided to ask him for a photograph and bought him some orange juice.

I like this photograph and how I composed it because I have the shop owners in the bottom left corner. The thing I would change is I would take it in color instead of black and white because it would make it a lot more interesting and make more things stand out.

I like how I composed this with someone giving him some money and also with the cooperative fair trade posters behind him I think it adds more of a political view to it.

I really like this photograph in Afflecks Palace in Manchester because it's really colorful and all the items in there are of the same genre. In the location we were in the lighting was really hard to get the exposure correct so I did well to get this.

Research

The Street
The Street is often a place where photographs are taken, showing busy city life and a few stories. There are a few things to be wary of while taking these photographs like this
Joel Meyerowitz
Meyerowitz is a 'street photographer' , he was also one of the first photographers to start using colour which changed a lot of peoples perspectives on photography. He became officially linked to the history of New York as he was the only photographer given access to Ground Zero when the World Trade Centers were attacked. I like these images although upsetting they are taken really well from a different point of view than other people had seen, I like that he was trusted enough to go on restricted grounds to get these images, they show the amount of distress it caused.
Robert Frank
Frank is one of the most influential photographers, with his post war images challenging the boundaries of still and moving images. In 1996 he was presented with the Hasselbald Award for his contributions to post-war photography. He started taking photographs that reflected his search for artistic freedom, traveling from South America and Europe looking for expressive potential.

I really like these images because they show a wide range of how life was after the war, for a while they seemed not to care about race, which at the time was a big deal. People ended up having to mover their businesses into bathrooms because it wasn't safe on the streets and everything was ruined.

Public Transport Location

Bruce Davidson
Davidson started taking photographs at the age of ten, but when he was older he was stationed in Paris for in the war where he met the owners of the renowned photography company, Magnum Photos. Davidson then took pictures of the a classic portrayal of the New York subway system, in the late 1970s. Using color, Davidson documented a gritty and lively urban underworld.
I like this photograph because it shows really well the kind of fear you used to feel on the subways in New York in the 80's
